Inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award Winner, Victor Garber – The FCFF Celebrates Southwestern Ontario Stardom

The Forest City Film Festival is thrilled to announce that we will be honouring Victor Garber with the  FCFF Lifetime Achievement in Entertainment Award, celebrating his exceptional career and deep-rooted connection to his hometown of London, Ontario. With nominations for three Gemini Awards, four Tony Awards, six Primetime Emmy Awards, and one Screen Actors Guild Award win, Victor’s achievements underscore his extraordinary talent and commitment to the arts.

Victor’s  journey began here in London when, at just nine years old, he started acting while attending Ryerson Public School (now Old North Public School) and later Central Secondary School in London. His early performances included roles in children’s programming at none other than London’s Grand Theatre. By 16, he had joined a summer theatre training program at the University of Toronto’s Hart House, setting the stage for his future success.

Victor’s professional breakthrough, however, came with the role of Jesus in the 1972 Toronto production of GODSPELL, alongside notable Southwestern Ontario alum like Eugene Levy, Martin Short, Paul Shaffer, and Gilda Radner. Victor’s role as Jesus led to his appearance in the 1973 film adaptation of GODSPELL, marking the start of a prolific career.

The 70s and 80s were a busy time for Victor with roles in theater productions such as SWEENEY TODD, NOISES OFF, and DEATHTRAP in New York. He also made appearances on TV shows like THE TWILIGHT ZONE, and HALLMARK HALL OF FAME. In the 90s, Victor transitioned into film with roles in SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE, EXOTICA, FIRST WIVES CLUB, HOW STELLA GOT HER GROOVE BACK and of course, TITANIC.

In 2001 Victor starred in the series, ALIAS as well as taking on his main supporting role in LEGALLY BLONDE.  The 2000s continued with a string of incredible film projects including, ARGO, SICARIO, and DARK WATERS.  TV work included roles on WILL AND GRACE, SCHITT’S CREEK, LAW & ORDER, 30 ROCK, MURDOCK MYSTERIES, SUITS and currently leading the cast on FAMILY LAW.

The breadth of his contributions, however, are not limited to the world of film and television. Diagnosed with diabetes at age 11, Victor has become a dedicated advocate for diabetes research and awareness. Over the years, Victor has actively supported various fundraising initiatives, including participating in charity events and campaigns to promote diabetes research and education. He has worked with organizations like the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) to help raise funds and awareness for the cause.

Victor also takes time to regularly visit London, where he maintains deep personal ties with friends and family. He has also played a significant role in personal milestones for friends, including officiating Jennifer Garner’s wedding.

We, at the FCFF, will be honoring Victor with a spectacular series of events that celebrate his extraordinary career and deep-rooted connection to the region. The festivities will include a grand induction award ceremony, followed by a gala in his honor. This is a unique opportunity to mingle with stars of Southwestern Ontario, and enjoy an evening that showcases the best of our region.

Additionally, we will be showcasing three of Victor’s most iconic films: (To be announced shortly).  Victor will join us for special Q&A sessions for each film, offering an insider’s look into the making of these beloved movies. His distinguished career and dedication to both the arts and his community make this celebration truly special.

Victor’s deep ties to his hometown and his significant contributions make him a deserving honoree. Not only has he had a long and acclaimed career, featuring in some of the highest-grossing films in history, but he has formed deep friendships with the people he’s worked with.  His enduring connection to London further highlights why he is such a worthy recipient of this honor, and why we are so excited to celebrate alongside him for this truly momentous occasion. You might even spot some of his friends joining in the festivities!
