From Pitch to Cannes: Proof That One Pitch Can Change Everything
Think a 4-minute pitch can’t change your career? Think again.
Each year, bold creators take the stage at Project Pitch to share their vision and walk away with real industry support. Winners have turned pitches into full-scale productions, secured distribution, and advanced their careers on the international film circuit.
Here’s how one winning team went from the Project Pitch spotlight to the global stage.
2023 Feature Film Pitch Winners – TURN IT UP!
For producers Jesse Thomas Cook and Liv Collins, a four-minute pitch was the first step in a breakthrough journey. After winning big at the OSCC and wrapping on production, TURN IT UP! was selected for the Frontières’ Buyers Showcase at the Cannes Marché du Film.
TURN IT UP! is set in the unpredictable world of indie rock, and follows a struggling band that steals a mysterious melody with universe-warping consequences.
“I don’t know if we would’ve made this movie without winning the pitch. [We told ourselves if] we win the pitch, that will be a sign from the universe that we are supposed to make this movie, and lo and behold we won. So we intuitively followed that path and it led us here today.”
– Jesse Thomas Cook, On The Set Of TURN IT UP!

Frontières is an international co-production market spotlighting genre-driven projects and fostering connections between North American and European producers, distributors, and financiers.
TURN IT UP! was featured as part of the Buyers Showcase on May 18th, 2025, which highlights in-progress and post-production films that are actively seeking sales agents and global distribution deals.
It’s one of many success stories to emerge from Project Pitch, and a reminder that the right platform can propel a project from local spotlight to global stage.

“The Forest City Film Festival is so important in creating that momentum for development of an idea. It can be really hard to get funding, especially in Canada, you know we are all working with limited resources to be able to get things off the ground. […] For someone like Rahul and myself, emerging creators, [it means we] can actually have a chance at showcasing an idea we have.”
– Charlie Whalley, 2023 Web Series Pitch Winner
